Accommodations (^ Courses and Services)
Guests are accommodated by selected guest families. The majority of the participants stay in the center of Bab Tuma, the ancient Christian settlement in Damascus named a cultural treasure by UNESCO. From the start you won’t be considered a tourist, but rather a welcome guest and, not seldom, a part of the family. You’ll be able to look behind the scenes, day in, day out- views often hidden from most tourists. You’ll stay in your own room, in most cases with your own bathroom and kitchen. The rooms are simply furnished and clean. As it often is the case that participants are away during the family meals, accommodations are without provisions. Usually someone in the family or one of the neighbors can speak English or French so that understanding shouldn’t be a problem. Other than that, the German-speaking institute staff is available 24 hours/day.
